A brief summary of classes offered and prices
Our Sailing Courses:
- ASA 101 Basic Keelboat: (No Prerequisites)
The Basic Keelboat class is normally conducted over a weekend. Class starts at 9:00 AM with a review of; sailing lexicon, boat parts, points of sail and knots. Around 10:30 we move to the boat and again review with hands on boat parts and recognition of points of sail. Class breaks at 11:00 for lunch and returns to the boat at 12:00. We sail for about 4.5 hours return to the dock and take the first half of the written test. The second day's routine is the similar; morning lecture, review on boat, break for lunch, then 4.5 hours on the water, followed by the remainder of the written test

ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising: (Prerequisite ASA 101)
This class is a liveaboard school generally conducted over a Fri, Sat, and Sun. In the classroom we start with a quick review of 101 material then we progress into the 103 curriculum. We take a break then meet at the boat where it is provisioned and prepared to get underway. The class departs before noon. We will spend two nights out, (Fri. & Sat.), one night in a marina and the other at anchor, (weather permitting). We review and test Fri & Sat evenings. Mornings are for planning, weather check, and navigation. There are 6 area marinas within 3 - 6 hours sailing time. There are also many good anchorages depending on the weather. Class ends at 5:00 on Sunday evening.

ASA 104 Bareboat Chartering: (Prerequisite ASA 101 / 103)
This class is a liveaboard school. It is normally conducted over a long weekend, Fri, Sat, and Sun. We start in the classroom for a 1.5-hour review of ASA 101 and ASA 103 materials then moving on to the ASA 104 information. Take a break and meet at the boat around 10:30, stow the provisions for our 3-day trip. Most classes get underway prior to 12:00 and we begin our drill and practice maneuvers. Using the navigation created by one of the students we head for our first destination. As in the 103 class we review and test on Fri. & Sat. evenings. The mornings are spent in preparing breakfast then trip planning and preparing the days navigation. Whether we are at anchor or a marina we usually depart before 10:00 to begin our practice sessions. We arrive back in Corpus Christi on Sunday late afternoon. Students normally on their way home by 5:00.

ASA 105 Coastal Navigation: (Prerequisites: None)
This is primarily a self-study class. Order your materials and set aside about 1 - 3 months of time to study. If the materials are purchased from us we include:
1. All instructional materials, (does not include plotting equipment)
2. A 4-hour review of the material on a Saturday at 0900.
3. Test proctoring on Saturday afternoon. The test is difficult and on average takes about 4 -5 hours to complete.

ASA 103 / 104 Combination School
This is a 4 day liveaboard school. The class is generally conducted from Monday through Thursday. Lesson plans are aggressive. Instruction begins in the classroom with a review. After chart work and logs are completed we move to the boat. Another hands on review then we stow our provisions and prepare to get underway. A quick lunch, we shove off and begin our practice sessions and drills. All meals except for one are prepared on the boat. One evening your on your own, enjoy your shore leave and dine out or in. Each consecutive day is similar. You prepare breakfast and at 0900, we start work on our navigation and trip planning. During the day we practice maneuvers, have lunch while underway, and in the evening we lecture and test. Class finishes on Thursday at 5:00 PM

Fast Track: (Prerequisites none but some experience)
This is a very intense class and covers all materials from 101 / 103 / 104. It is a 5-day liveaboard school scheduled on Monday - Friday. You will be staying on our larger training vessel the entire time. The first day or day and a half will be spent on our basic training boat. This is where you will really learn how to sail. Class starts with reviews but usually has moved to the boat by noon. During the first day or day and a half you learn the basic sailing skills. The class then changes boats, we move into a 31 footer with a wheel, roller furling jib and inboard diesel. Once aboard this vessel we depart Corpus Christi for practise sessions and navigation problems. The last days are primarily used to increase your skill level and knowledge of: emergency responses, boat systems, navigation and other related topics.
